POPPING IN ON: BELLINI SHOES
What’s a nice Irish lass doing in a shoe like that? Whatever she pleases.
“Do I have a shoe thing? Yes I do,” says Gillian Elbroji, proprietor of Bellini Shoes on White Street, just a few doors in from Broad Street.
“But don’t all women? It’s like chocolate. I don’t think there’s a woman anywhere who doesn’t have a chocolate problem.”
Elbroji (nee Daly, of Dublin; her husband’s Morroccan) opened the footwear emporium in late April to sell the only kind of shoes that matter, as she sees it. Italian shoes. Supple works of art and support for both women and men.
“They’re hand-made and they just last forever,” Elbroji, now of Atlantic Highlands says. She adds that she “will only bring in stock that I know is not being carried elsewhere” in the area.
Prices at Bellini range from $115 to $625 a pair, though the average is about $265, says Elbroji.
It’s her first retail venture, but one she hopes will prove a good fit with Coco Pari, Marisa Boutique and Tiffany, among other style standouts.
“For the fashion-forward type of person, Red Bank is an up and coming town,” she says, showing a visitor the merchandise in her spacious, butterscotch-tinged store. “What you find in Red Bank you really cannot find anywhere else.”
