CHOWING DOWN IN DINETOWN

Just a friendly reminder that Red Bank RiverCenter’s twice-yearly Dine Downtown promotion continues for three more Tuesdays — and two more Wednesdays — through the end of March.

It’s a promotion during which eighteen different Red Bank eateries (including four that are participating for the first time) are offering a choice of special prix fixe menus that include appetizer, entrée and dessert for any of three different pricing levels — $15, $25 and $30 (beverages, tax and gratuities not included).

The list of participants spotlights both long-established landmarks and buzzworthy newcomers; with vibes that span the comfy side of casual to the cutting edge of cosmopolitan. Check the details, including a complete and slightly opinionated list of Dine Downtown vittle venues, right here in the oRBit archive. Then Continue Reading for more news from Red Bank Riv Cen.

There may still as we type this be one last straggling spoonful of snow in the forgotten far corner of a local shopping center, but summer’s on the way, just as sure as this’ll all be underwater in your children’s children’s lifetimes.

That means the folks at Rivercenter are even now gearing up for the ninth annual edition of StreetLife, the warmweather Saturday evening music and performance series that takes place on the sidewalks and storefronts of the Broad Street/ Monmouth Street/ Bridge Avenue biz-diz circuit.

It’s an event that’s given many a veteran or virtual-beginner musician a nice bit of exposure (and a little fresh-air vacation break from the bedroom or barroom where their tunes are normally presented to the public). And it’s being made possible once more by the sponsorship of Bank of America, Funk & Standard Variety Store, the Monmouth County Arts Council and the Count Basie Theatre.

The Basie’s second-floor Rehearsal Studio will be the scene of an Open Audition session on the evening of Tuesday, April 7— with RiverCenter seeking not just talented adult and teen musicmakers (16 years and older), but mimes, clowns, jugglers, magicians — just about anything short of a human cannonball, trained elephant act or killer-robots tournament. During the two-hour audition call kicking off at 6pm, prospective performers are being asked to bring three to four minutes worth of prepared material highlighting their skills, along with a bio and references if possible.

StreetLife officially begins on the weekend of the Red Bank Jazz & Blues Festival (June 5-8) and continues every Saturday through Labor Day weekend from 7 to 10pm — but tourists and townies alike will get a sneak preview of this year’s sked on May 16, as part of the 2009 TriCity Arts Tour weekend, about which more tomorrow right here in Red Bank oRBit.
