  ART SUBMISSIONS WANTED by 9/26! In anticipation of the 2010 Asbury Park Zombie Walk (and in cahoots with Paranormal Books & Curiosities), Gallery 13 in Asbury Park celebrates the macabre, the eldritch and the (way) outre with a monthlong exhibit of visceral images that kicks off with an opening reception on October 2. There's a closing party, too, on October 30 right after the walking dead do their shambling thing.

  The Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network presents a 'Moving Toward a Cure' fundraising walk dedicated to food allergy research and sponsored by Pier Village. All are welcome to participate (wagons and strollers are OK; pets, bikes, rollerskates and skateboards are NO—K), with check—in beginning at 9am and the 3 mile walk commencing at 10am from the Great Lawn area north of Pier Village.   The Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce and the Passion Group team up with the makers of that most sublime stout to present a two day, rain or shine seafood and music festival revolving around the much—misunderstood mollusk, and featuring live tunes all day. It's FREE admission, with rides, craft vendors and dozens of seafood specialties (served up by some of the best of Asbury's restaurant class) arrayed along the Lake Avenue waterfront.

• 09.11 - Flo's First Chili Cook—Off at the Pony
  On September 18, The Stone Pony serves up an aftrnoon of live entertainment, kids' tent, arts 'n crafts, eco—friendly products, local produce, and some of the best chili you'll find in New Jersey — along with music featuring DJ Johnny Ringo, The Bog Iron Band, Boothill Express, B.A.N.G., The Royalles, and Stringbean & the Stalkers.   On September 25, the second annual event at Monmouth Park Racetrack offers an afternoon of steeplechase racing, family friendly activities, food and entertainment with proceeds benefiting the K. Hovnanian Children's Hospital at Jersey Shore Medical Center. Gates open 11:30am, with the bugle blowing for the day's race card at 12:50pm.
• 09.11 - Summer's End Festival in Oceanport
  One of the biggest (and certainly one of the latest) fireworks shows in NJ — a display that gets a little close to nearby residential blocks — happens each year at this evening party featuring music, food, vendors and kids' activities. Pyrotechnics are scheduled for 9pm, with a rain date of Sunday, 9/12.

  The Art Alliance of Monmouth County returns with a FRESH new group show of art by AAMC members, with featured window display by painter, printmaker and video artist Robert O'Connor of Atlantic Highlands. Opening reception runs from 6 to 8pm, and exhibit continues through the month during regular gallery hours, Tuesday thru Saturday, from 12 to 4pm.

  The Count Basie Theatre honors the memory of Lincroft's Beth A. Quigley and the other victims of the 9/11 attacks, with a special screening of the documentary SEVERE CLEAR, directed by Colts Neck filmmaker (and Iraq War vet) Michael Scotti. The director joins the Quigley family in person at this event, a benefit for the nonprofit organization ReserveAid. Doors open 7pm for a one hour cash bar; tickets (50 to 100 dollars) available from the Basie box office and additional info at www.reserveaid.org.

  Part of a nationwide series of events here in the 21st season of the Danskin Triathlon, the sprint distance swim/ bike/ run challenge returns to the Hook (it’s the official NY Metro area event of the Danskin schedule) with a morning of competition raising funds for breast cancer research. Registration for this event is SOLD OUT, but the organizers encourage spectators and supporters to cheer on the athletes.

  The seventh annual event presents a day of live music (by the Colts Neck Swing Band, plus Latin rock, traditional Chinese songs and Greek dance) and showcases by local artisans in the Gray Barn Gallery. There's kids' music by Yosi, art demos by The Doodle Dude, and even a live demonstration of 'plein air' painting, judged by art gallery owner James Yarosh. • 09.12 - Art from Found Objects: A Juried Exhibition
  The Monmouth Museum hosts an opening reception for a display of 'trash' and otherwise 'found' art created from components that have been discarded and rediscovered. Exhibit (juried by Harriet Taub of NYC's Department of Cultural Affairs) continues during normal museum hours through October 31; check website for admission info.
