On September 10, the Sandy Hook Foundation presents its annual fond farewell to the season of summer concerts and activities on the Hook, with some of the area's finest restaurants and caterers doing their thing they do so well, plus live music and auction items offered by a selection of local merchants. On September 11, the Count Basie Theatre honors the memory of Lincroft's Beth A. Quigley and the other victims of the 9/11 attacks, with a special screening of the documentary SEVERE CLEAR, directed by Colts Neck filmmaker (and Iraq War vet) Michael Scotti. The director joins the Quigley family in person at this event, a benefit for the nonprofit organization ReserveAid. On September 26, the Jersey Shore Running Club and NJ Bankers Association present the annual relay race sponsored by Liberty Natural Gas, and dedicated to National Hunger Action Month. This race event takes to the herringboned hardwoods of the Asbury Park boardwalk with teams of up to three entrants competing to run a total 15k course (noncompeting individuals are also invited to run the course, and walkers can take part in a 5k fun event). It all commences from Convention Hall at 8:30am (registration's at 7:30), with proceeds to benefit the Foodbank of Monmouth and ocean Counties. There's also live music by JSRC member Joe Hughes and his band Goldenseal, along with an early opening of the Wonder Bar for an awards ceremony and afterparty.
